This is not an article of mine but just a head's up about a book that some people point to as evidence that we must stop burning fossil fuel because it puts C02 into the atmosphere and causes climate change that is in turn causing an alarming "Sixth Extinction." The book is, The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History, by Elizabeth Kolbert, a writer who is not, herself, a scientist. My point about this book is not that the extinctions it describes are not very worrisome. Yes, of course they are! My point, however, is that nowhere in this book is there any persuasive evidence presented for what is simply assumed throughout, namely the presumption that humans burning fossil fuel is a significant CAUSE of these extinctions. Please do not let the alarming nature of the extinctions prevent you from seeing that there is no persuasive evidence that they are caused by humans burning fossil fuels.
